He and Colbert seemed smart and sane before this trans bullshit started. They were always ready to point out the inconsistencies of the left (along with the ones coming from the right).

Now they have both jumped on the train: I don' t know if they actually believe the crap they say or they are simply pandering out of fear and virtue signalling, regardless I lost any kind of respect I had for both of them. If they honestly believe this stuff, they are hypocritical morons. If they don' t but still play along, they are hypocritical assholes.

Oliver in the specific lost me for something unrelated to trans issues in which he had a similar stance. During the height of the migrant crisis in Europe (I am Italian) made a piece for his show criticizing anyone who didn' t share the "you' re all welcome" attitude by using a migrant, who just happened to be a little girl on a wheelchair: his argument was basically "this girl is a migrant, all migrants are like her, and you are evil if you even think otherwise!".

It was so absolutely dishonest that I started questioning every argument he has made in the years, not to mention the tipping point regarding journalism (official and not) in general.

If someone I thought was smart and objective was able to be this kind of dishonest, then I guess pretty much everyone in the business does it.

I agree with you on both and I also have lost respect for Colbert over this and other mindless virtue-signaling.

I actually have lost respect for friends because they allow these talk show hosts to decide issues for them. Granted, my friends are extremely busy, but they are also very intelligent and used to be critical thinkers.

Now, they follow the Church of the Woke, mostly because they just don't have time so just adopt the Democrats' platform wholesale, but also because of the Colberts and Olivers who make it seem ABSURD not to think like they do, and then their kids make fun of them if they stray from the extreme SJW bullshit the kids were indoctrinated in at university/high school.

Although most of my friends, when I discuss the TWAW with them, are easily convertible back to thinking that gendxr ideology is absolute bullshit.

I am incredibly lucky that in my country this nonsense hasn' t really arrived in full force yet, and whenver the topic comes up with the people in my life, they either don' t care or agree with me. The one person who was full on TRA crap only took an afternoon of discussion to agree that it is bullshit.

But yes, I thought they were a breath of fresh air when Jon Stewart was still on his show and Colbert had his, I really enjoyed both shows and thought they were funny, smart and informative. Oliver' s new show was frankly getting grating even before I peaked, I don' t know exactly why (except that maybe he is just better as a sidekick than as the lead). Colbert just lost everything interesting and funny he had when took Letterman' s place. He is heading a generic talk show and seems like he misses the time in which he could actually speak instead of rise, reansing, repeat dumb sketches and even dumber conversations with random celebrities.

They both give me the vibes of people who are not allowed (by themselves mostly) to actually speak about how the left sucks because after Trump it became necessary to pretend that the Democrats are pure, moral beings who can do no wrong. "Progressives", libfems, antifas and TRAs have a similar attitude with the "you are either with us or you are a nazi". I don' t justify them at all, not only they are alienating a good chunck of people, they are just displaying their dishonesty and hipocrisy, and I can bet my ass it will be exploited in one way or another.

Colbert in character on his own show was brilliant political satire and I agree that his current late night show lacks pizazz.

Jon Stewart I found funny, and occasionally informative, but he consistently irritated me, and John Oliver has always irritated me and I don't think I've ever laughed.

I agree that cancel culture and extreme-political correctness is out of control and I also think that there will a blowback as a result. In fact, I think the election of Trump was the first part of the blowback.

I agree that Stewart could be irritating, but I enjoyed his brand of obnoxiousness, so I liked him despite, if not for the fact that he was irritating.

I also agree about Trump: it was obvious to me that he was elected only because he was pushing against pc culture, and the fact that democrats in the past four years have done everything but open their eyes on the reasons why he got the job is hilarious and terrifying at the same time. They spent an entire mandate pretending that he was elected because he rigged the results when the truth is that they have been steadily losing votes and credibility since Obama was still in charge. Trump wasn' t elected because he cheated, he was elected because most people refused to vote for the left.

ANd it is happening everywhere: I am not American, but in my country it is happening the same thing. Right wingers win everywhere and the left blames either them for cheating or the population for being braindead morons (something democrats in the USA have also done). It' s too hard to accept that they are going batshit crazy and people are just not willing to vote for them anymore because they are genuinely scared that they might come up with something even worse than banning abortion.

I am the living proof that this is indeed what has happened: I don' t want to vote for right wing parties, but I cannot vote for left wing parties because I don' t trust them and I am scared they might do something worse than anything right wing parties could do. I don' t want to be responsible of whatever the left wingers I put in charge by voting them will do. And the worst thing is that while I completely disagree with right wingers on pretty much everything, at least their position is consistent and can be understood in one way or another, while left wingers are completely hypocritical and unable to think or even describe their position without contraddicting themselves.

The problem is that I honestly don' t know what right wing victories will do to them: they might open their eyes and do something to change their ways in better, but given how they behave it' s more likely they will go even more batshit crazy. The only silver lining to that is that they are going to keep losing supporters until there is nothing more of the current left and something better will rise.

Hopefully.
