Read the whole thread.

Oliver apparently did a segment on the bias against women in medical treatment, but his show's Twitter (and apparently he himself) have made digs at J.K. Rowling over her outrageous stance that biological sex is real, etc.

What's even worse is that Rowling seems to be a fan of Oliver's.

I hate Oliver's voice and his testeria, and even though he sometimes throws light on important issues, it's not worth his Woke Bro misogyny.

His voice is so wildly terrible! This parody nailed it: https://twitter.com/mattbooshell/status/1044280610733391874 and it's so sexist that Oliver can just yell his monologues to sound more convincing, but if a woman ever raised her voice like that she'd be deemed a lunatic.

Oliver's voice gives me internal hives.

You all are going to hate me for this, but I cannot stand that so many of these talk/political show people are not Americans. I feel (having lived in other countries) that it's kind of offensive to install a wannabe pundit like Oliver to lecture Americans on all the eleventy billion things wrong with America. It's the same issue I have with Trevor Noah and Samantha Bee and that James Corden, although I've never watched him long enough to know if he's political he's that irritating to me.

I can only imagine going to Australia, say, and going over my list (I lived there) of what I find wrong with Australia and Australians (a lot of the same things I find wrong with America and Americans), have it be televised to an audience of apparently self-loathing trained clapping seals, and being paid millions of dollars a year to do it.

I know that this has happened (Americans becoming pundits overseas) but it's still irritating, no matter which country it is and who is doing it.

That's a bummer. I knew he did shows on trans stuff before, but this kinda takes it too far. I really liked his show :/

Samantha Bee is even worse on the trans issues, and she's a woman.

I think that Oliver has done some really good work, but both he and Bee seem true believers in the TWAW narrative and that really makes me doubt their intelligence and or critical thinking skills. And or what the hell they did during high school biology.

Sam Bee's strong TRA views have been so disappointing. I loved her on the Daily Show.

[–]BEB[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

And Sam Bee is so RABID about her stance. I could see if she was a woman who was going along to get along, but she's very gung ho.

It does make me think less of Sam Bee, because I can't see how any intelligent person, much less a woman who's had a baby (she has, right?) could buy this transwomen are women shit.

Also how Bee can't see that other women - elderly women, religious women, sexual assault survivors, might not be comfortable with a male in their intimate spaces. It's so selfish on the part of the Hand Maidens that they don't care about other women.

[–]uroborosjohnson 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sam Bee has had multiple children, while working too if I recall correctly. I'm guessing it's partially to do with her ultrawoke staff at Full Frontal, and her desire to be on the right side of history without critically examining what she's saying. Perfect example of a woman who has reaped the benefits of feminism and has even fought her own battles but is hurting the next generation of women.

[–]BEB[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I used to think Bee was funny on the Daily Show, but I'm so offended by her faux-feminism that I can't watch her show.

I'm waiting for the day all these TWAW-spouting Wokesters who call themselves feminists wake up and start backtracking. Luckily with some of them, like Bee, we have receipts.

Using “Testeria” to describe some adult male temper tantrums in my life now thank you.

Tbh every time a male celebrity says TWAW and comes out against JK I assume: 1) They didn’t read her letter or tweets. 2) They’re popular with millennials or gen z 3) or They’re into a certain type of pornography/would sleep with a trans woman/have a fetish, and we all get to hear about it. 4) they’re in a relationship but want their bi/str8 female fans to fantasize about them as their wokey-pokey

I would take a bow but I saw "testerical" on Twitter, so am just a copycat.

I'm starting to think that the only people who actually read JK Rowling's statement are on this board, Ovarit.com, or Spinster ;-)

I'm guessing Oliver's audience is older Millennials, Gen X and liberal Boomers. But, as I've said before, a lot of older liberals don't want to be viewed as dinosaurs, and trans demands have been packaged as part of LGB rights, so they have embraced TWAW without really meaning it, much less pausing to think how fucking absurd it is.

Oliver is married to an American woman who was an Army medic in Iraq. I don't know what her political affiliation is, but she seems conservative-type patriotic (USA,USA,USA) and a bit of an Amazon. So kudos to Oliver on that front (that he's not intimidated by a strong woman).

I don't know where she actually stands on this or any issue, but I would guess, given that she's married to Oliver, that she might be one of the conservative-leaning type women who are on the TWAW train because she wants to make sure that not all conservatives are viewed as backwards LGBTQ+++ haters. Kind of the Pick Me type of conservative women. But that is just a guess based on my meeting a lot of those types.

He and Colbert seemed smart and sane before this trans bullshit started. They were always ready to point out the inconsistencies of the left (along with the ones coming from the right).

Now they have both jumped on the train: I don' t know if they actually believe the crap they say or they are simply pandering out of fear and virtue signalling, regardless I lost any kind of respect I had for both of them. If they honestly believe this stuff, they are hypocritical morons. If they don' t but still play along, they are hypocritical assholes.

Oliver in the specific lost me for something unrelated to trans issues in which he had a similar stance. During the height of the migrant crisis in Europe (I am Italian) made a piece for his show criticizing anyone who didn' t share the "you' re all welcome" attitude by using a migrant, who just happened to be a little girl on a wheelchair: his argument was basically "this girl is a migrant, all migrants are like her, and you are evil if you even think otherwise!".

It was so absolutely dishonest that I started questioning every argument he has made in the years, not to mention the tipping point regarding journalism (official and not) in general.

If someone I thought was smart and objective was able to be this kind of dishonest, then I guess pretty much everyone in the business does it.

I agree with you on both and I also have lost respect for Colbert over this and other mindless virtue-signaling.

I actually have lost respect for friends because they allow these talk show hosts to decide issues for them. Granted, my friends are extremely busy, but they are also very intelligent and used to be critical thinkers.

Now, they follow the Church of the Woke, mostly because they just don't have time so just adopt the Democrats' platform wholesale, but also because of the Colberts and Olivers who make it seem ABSURD not to think like they do, and then their kids make fun of them if they stray from the extreme SJW bullshit the kids were indoctrinated in at university/high school.

Although most of my friends, when I discuss the TWAW with them, are easily convertible back to thinking that gendxr ideology is absolute bullshit.

I am incredibly lucky that in my country this nonsense hasn' t really arrived in full force yet, and whenver the topic comes up with the people in my life, they either don' t care or agree with me. The one person who was full on TRA crap only took an afternoon of discussion to agree that it is bullshit.

But yes, I thought they were a breath of fresh air when Jon Stewart was still on his show and Colbert had his, I really enjoyed both shows and thought they were funny, smart and informative. Oliver' s new show was frankly getting grating even before I peaked, I don' t know exactly why (except that maybe he is just better as a sidekick than as the lead). Colbert just lost everything interesting and funny he had when took Letterman' s place. He is heading a generic talk show and seems like he misses the time in which he could actually speak instead of rise, reansing, repeat dumb sketches and even dumber conversations with random celebrities.

They both give me the vibes of people who are not allowed (by themselves mostly) to actually speak about how the left sucks because after Trump it became necessary to pretend that the Democrats are pure, moral beings who can do no wrong. "Progressives", libfems, antifas and TRAs have a similar attitude with the "you are either with us or you are a nazi". I don' t justify them at all, not only they are alienating a good chunck of people, they are just displaying their dishonesty and hipocrisy, and I can bet my ass it will be exploited in one way or another.

[–]BEB[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Colbert in character on his own show was brilliant political satire and I agree that his current late night show lacks pizazz.

Jon Stewart I found funny, and occasionally informative, but he consistently irritated me, and John Oliver has always irritated me and I don't think I've ever laughed.

I agree that cancel culture and extreme-political correctness is out of control and I also think that there will a blowback as a result. In fact, I think the election of Trump was the first part of the blowback.

[–]Omina_Sentenziosa 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree that Stewart could be irritating, but I enjoyed his brand of obnoxiousness, so I liked him despite, if not for the fact that he was irritating.

I also agree about Trump: it was obvious to me that he was elected only because he was pushing against pc culture, and the fact that democrats in the past four years have done everything but open their eyes on the reasons why he got the job is hilarious and terrifying at the same time. They spent an entire mandate pretending that he was elected because he rigged the results when the truth is that they have been steadily losing votes and credibility since Obama was still in charge. Trump wasn' t elected because he cheated, he was elected because most people refused to vote for the left.

ANd it is happening everywhere: I am not American, but in my country it is happening the same thing. Right wingers win everywhere and the left blames either them for cheating or the population for being braindead morons (something democrats in the USA have also done). It' s too hard to accept that they are going batshit crazy and people are just not willing to vote for them anymore because they are genuinely scared that they might come up with something even worse than banning abortion.

I am the living proof that this is indeed what has happened: I don' t want to vote for right wing parties, but I cannot vote for left wing parties because I don' t trust them and I am scared they might do something worse than anything right wing parties could do. I don' t want to be responsible of whatever the left wingers I put in charge by voting them will do. And the worst thing is that while I completely disagree with right wingers on pretty much everything, at least their position is consistent and can be understood in one way or another, while left wingers are completely hypocritical and unable to think or even describe their position without contraddicting themselves.

The problem is that I honestly don' t know what right wing victories will do to them: they might open their eyes and do something to change their ways in better, but given how they behave it' s more likely they will go even more batshit crazy. The only silver lining to that is that they are going to keep losing supporters until there is nothing more of the current left and something better will rise.

Hopefully.

Jimmy Kimmel is another one. On a recent show he was railing against the anti-science views of the Republicans, yet he is an enthusiastic supporter of the notion that all it takes to be a woman is to call yourself one.

It's so fucking disrespectful to us, to our biology, to our struggles, and so profoundly unscientific. And dangerous.

Kimmel lives in California - let's Tweet at him asking Jimmy what he thinks of the new law that allows TiMs to self-id as women and be housed in women's jails.

Hey Jimmy, can you reassure us that this new law won't lead to the rape of at least one woman? And is that cool with you?

That the "rights" of a man who claims to feel a disconnect between his mind and his body matter more than the rights of a woman not to be forcibly impregnated by a stranger?

We need to take the fight to them. Put them on the spot. Challenge every stupid fucking thing that comes out of their mouths. And we need to do it now.

I'm not on Twitter, but if you or anyone actually does this, be sure to remind him that putting males in a female prison is a violation of the Geneva convention...

Geneva Convention prevents male prisoners being housed with female prisoners. The geneva convention actually states single sex incarcertion is non optional.

I've come to the conclusion that it's the rare man that actually listens to women. I think men of my generation and slightly younger do listen more than men now and men before my generation. Now, boys are corrupted by easily-available porn and basically trained to treat women with contempt. Men of Oliver's age (he's in his 40s I think?) hit the backlash against 2nd Wave feminism so many of them are pseudo-feminists IMO.
