They say any press is good press! Every time something gender critical related receives limelight, so many more people peak and we gain more followers, more curious people questioning what they've been fed by TRAs. Women know that our biology is integral to our lived experience. With every push TRAs make to silence us, to take our language, to erase our bodies, more and more women become uncomfortable with their movement. Because it is, at its core, fundamentally anti-feminist.

This is completely off-topic (sorry!) but may I query after your username? I recently read a book that was based on Russian/Eastern European folklore and loved it, so I'm curious :)

Of course! In Slavic mythology rusalki are female water spirits, sometimes considered dead young women who committed suicide by drowning due to unhappy marriages or unwanted pregnancies. They haunt bodies of water and seduce and lure men in order to drown them. So they are pretty much feminist icons, haha.

Was the book called Deathless, by chance? (If so, I adore that book, and if not then do also read it!)

Oh yeah, better not fuck with the rusalki... I didn't know that (possible) ghost aspect though. Cool detail. It was the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, great read! And a female protagonist as well, yay! And thanks for the tip, will check out Deathless next :)

There's a song by The Decemberists which is why I had heard of them and looked them up a couple years ago. It's a two part song, the first part kinda slow and foreboding and the second half a little more upbeat. It's called Rusalka, Rusalka / Wild Rushes and is told from the viewpoint of a boy being seduced and then dragged under at the end.

Unfortunately I used that sub for actual information about PCOS and have really needed it lately. I'm pretty upset it's gone private. A lot of women actually really needed the information on that sub, as no one cares about women's health issues and it's basically impossible to find good information about treating PCOS most places on the internet.

Good point. Why is it that no one is arguing on behalf of FtM trans folks?
You'll definitely get banned and/or have your thread shut down.
It's also interesting that there is no equivalent for "TERF!" for men.

I love that someone keeps on wasting Reddit gold to all the pro-TRA posts, which are still downvoted to hell. Spend money on a stupid argument that just peaks more people.

I'm glad more women are speaking out against this, the silencing of us needs to stop, period.

[–][deleted] 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wish more women would delete their reddit accounts. Screw them. Seriously, the trans and misogynist contingent won't stop brigading and attacking us, and they have REDDIT's full approval in doing so. They want to be the next pornhub, I'm convinced. Women are not welcome there unless their docile, well behaved, obedient, or have their legs spread open for the camera.

[–][deleted] 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's so funny that these TRAs keep telling women what they can or can't say and screaming t--- or transphobic when women call them out on the misogyny of doing just that. No one is denying that trans men are female, but I doubt it's the trans men complaining. Women shouldn't have to make themselves smaller and not talk about their reality for any reason. Like, why have feminism at all since men are excluded?

brb spending all my reddit award currency on this brave lass. I said goodbye to reddit but this seems like a worthy cause

There is now a post trying to get the attention of the mods. They are talking about trying to reddit request the pcos subreddit to put the person who created pcos folks in charge. A handful of women are going to attempt to forcibly coopt the pcos subreddit over this.

[–]_UngodlyFruit_ 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Wait..is Reddit able to do that? Forcibly switch out mods in a group to ones they favour more?

[–]venecia[S] 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yes. It's one of the reasons I don't dare to speak on reddit, or comment/vote on things related to this with my account. The admins have the exclusive right to replace moderators if the subreddit is considered one of the mains (1 million+ subscribers).

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I was a mod on two subs. I said "F THIS" and deleted my account. I know they will attempt to ban both subs I was helping moderate. I refuse to contribute to their user base and profit... and it seems their CRAP is wide open for anyone to see even without an account.

[–]wicklesnarf 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They don't seem fussy about replacing mods even for no real reason at all. This happened on r/panelshow. There was one mod, the founder, who ran it by herself for years, quietly deleting spam and off topic posts. Then this narcissistic guy who posts under his full legal name comes in and decides he wants to be added as a mod. She ignores his messages, so he goes to the admins and says she's inactive. They add him as a mod, she doesn't know what's going on, removes him, so he threw a fit and had the admins reinstate him and boot her.

He's completely taken over the sub the last couple years. He posts repetitive long essays about his modding and stickies them, deletes any comments even slightly critical of him and threatens to ban people left and right. He banned one woman, one of the most active members of the sub, who was almost annoyingly inoffensive, for asking him why he posted a screenshot to show someone a report making fun of them in a really hurtful way (he constantly posts screenshots of reports so he can respond to them with sassy comebacks), then quietly reversed the ban after being called out by multiple people. He even created a completely new subreddit to post about his modding of this one small subreddit. He inserts himself everywhere and then takes it personally when people criticize the way the sub is run. It took over a year of begging to get him to finally add a couple other people as mods to keep him in check and he of course only accepted people who are completely obedient to him.

It's quieted down a bit the last few months since most of the people who pipe up have been banned or left for a competing sub, but it was one of the most mundanely strange power trips I've seen. It's so odd and such a random subreddit to take over and cause so much drama.

I wish there were screenshots of what was said on PCOS. Putting some of this stuff up on Twitter.

Wow they even want to take down the anti-porn sub? Shows they only care about their "girldicks"

[–]strawberryfields4evr 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It wasn't so long ago TRAs were invading that sub and trying to convince women that it's an intersex disorder. I have PCOS myself and there's absolutely no evidence whatsoever that this is the case. They just want to capture as many people as they possibly can. And proof as well they are narrowing the boxes of what a woman can be.

I know. It’s like they’re trying to save a drowning ship.

I hope when everyone is having these conversations on reddit, that they remember to signpost to Saidit.net. Reddit is founded upon misogyny, other people have made the point far more eloquently that reddit has more violent porn, including snuff porn and pedophilia, then any other site on the entire internet. It also has a few SuperMods controlling what millions of redditers can even see. Why are you trying so desperately to save that? It makes more sense to build saidit.net up and in the process, allow reddit to have the karma it has earned: It's just a porn site.

I cannot OVERSTATE HOW LIVID I AM. Nurenberg Trials will look like a party for what these people deserve. They will be held accountable. And no Argentina for TRAs psychos. Bleiburg it will be.

I can't find any satisfaction in the fact that some women will be peaked after this, although this is exactly how the vast majority of us peaked in the first place.

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I honestly didn't think much about them at all until the pogrom on Reddit. I discussed issues like domestic violence, sexual assault, economic discrimination, etc, in the so-called "Terf subs".

Here is a Removeddit link that shows the deleted and removed content.

Edited to add: and here is what ceddit is pulling https://www.ceddit.com/r/PCOS/comments/hl5dbz/why_is_is_always_the_femaleoriented_subs/

UPDATE: looks like PCOS went private. I guess they were getting so brigaded they had to... https://www.reddit.com/r/PCOS/comments/hl5dbz/why_is_is_always_the_femaleoriented_subs/

[–]malleus_maleficarum 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Ugh. That explains why nothing is showing now for ceddit/removeddit.

"Beat 'em if you can't join 'em." - TRAs

THIS. I emailed "press@reddit.com", doubt I'll get any reply aside from bots.

It can be fussy. They won't work in my hardened browser with ad-blocks/tracking blocks/containers/java script disabled etc....but they do work in Epic and PaleMoon for me currently.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

PCOS was set to private https://www.reddit.com/r/AgainstHateSubreddits/comments/hm08lu/rgendercriticalguys_and_saidit_gendercritical_are/ They were brigaded to the point of shutting down, perhaps? Or trans mods took it over. I wish there was a screen shot of what you were talking about.

It says it's been set to private when I try to visit the PCOS page, and I can no longer see my comments made there.

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They've set it to private. Look at vile "against hate subreddits" thread on this... they targeted PCOS because the user base "overlaped" with "TERF subs". https://www.reddit.com/r/AgainstHateSubreddits/comments/hm08lu/rgendercriticalguys_and_saidit_gendercritical_are/

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

LOL. Like all our less than two thousand subscribers are going to topple their sub with brigading!

[–]Trulymusic 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I guess the sub is private now? Does that kick everyone who was subscribed off? I hope not, there were almost 60000 women subscribed. This is really upsetting. Countless women have now lost a huge resource. All because of unbelievable selfishness. And it happened way faster than I thought it would.

[–]organic 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That’s great! Eventually people will get tired of the censorship. I know I am. People can live how they want but they can’t force us to adhere to their belief system. Material reality is material reality. It’s not transphobic to discuss women’s reproductive health!

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wish I could have seen it, but they've gone private!

[–]lodxvera 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't suffer from PCOS, but I do suffer from vaginismus and whilst I haven't seen many TRAs on the subreddit, I have seen posts regarding the subreddit and how the language used is not inclusive enough.

Like we have an entire community of women here that are physically unable to have sex with their partners when they want to, who are made to feel worthless because women are valued largely on their sexual value in today's society, who can't even put a tampon in without extreme pain, and these people think that the word 'ladies/women/females' in posta regarding a medical condition of the vagina upsetting them is more important?

Sure, it's easy to use inclusive language, but it's also easy to ignore gendered language in a post written by someone very emotional about their medical condition.
