All the crying wolf that we hear, especially levied at women, doesn't change the fact that genuine prejudice against trans people still exists. But most of the prejudice they receive is actually prejudice against gender non-conformity, which doesn't affect trans people exclusively.

Imagine a gay man who can't for the life of him pass as straight even if he is silent, even in a photograph, he'd experience homophobia, which is a form of oppression closely related to the oppression practically all trans-women have experienced. It wasn't even that long ago when trans-women & gay men were lumped together.

That having been said, there seems to be way more acceptance of & support for trans children than gay & lesbian children.

It is still done very often in post-USSR. And some countries (like Russia, for example) are showing in propaganda news transwomen and drag queens while saying "all gays are like that, we don't want western gay ideology to convert our people to this". Mostly transgenders here are attacked by homophobes for homophobia reasons, same as feminine gays like me or other GNC people.
