43 is pretty young, rest in peace. Colon cancer. My dad knows a guy who is 45 dying of colon cancer too. Horrible disease. Also killed my grandfather.

I do wonder if it has to do with the modern American diet, because we have normalized eating a lot of strange chemicals in our foods.

It's more to do with constipation. Eat more fibre.

Colon cancer is also one of the most treatable but people usually leave it too long to go to the doctor because the symptoms are embarrassing.

I read some more about it and saw this

Both men and women are equally at risk for colon cancer. The cancer is most common among people aged 50 and older but can occur in patients as young as teenagers. Over 75 percent of colon and rectal cancers happen to people with no known risk factors, which is why regular screening is so important.

So I don't think it's as predictable down to that single factor as you suggest. But it's possible.
