Couple of first thoughts...

-The name is fine. Short. Catchy. Easy to spell. Has layers of meaning.

-You will need some type of simple voting system above the comment voting system to chose leadership. Decentralized systems still needs leaders/admins. There are a couple of crypto projects trying to design these systems.

-You will need a native payment system. I'm not financially invested in crypto anymore but the IOTA project and the Monero project both seem suited for a decentralized social media network.

-Simple video and photo sharing will be needed but aren't essential for launching the product IMO. I've recently started using slug and I really like that they will host video for me (not just links to youtube; actual webm/mp4 clip hosting). I hope a future cassy has an in house video and photo hosting that is not easy for outsiders to take down.

-I hope as you study systems you look at Lenny instance, riot, bitchute, brave (and it's bat token), and even the pirate bay. I also hope you can get in touch with some of the teams that have been trying (and failing) to make a decentralized crypto brokerage. Maybe something can be learned from their failures?

Thanks for the feedback! Sorry this took a day.

The name is a working title, perhaps the final. It keeps growing on me. I'd love to develop a backronym for it. Something like, but much better than Community Accessible Social Systems for Yourselves.

I'm going to share my MetaVote™ idea shortly. It may be confusing to read, but a second post with the GUI simplicity illustrated with images should be exceptionally easy to understand. But it will remain hypothetical vapourware until someone steps up to build it in code. With that and a proper database configuration and analysis there should be little need for moderation. It's a powerful idea good for many other applications too, not complicated, but no small task to build either. This is intended for BETTER DATA with a SIMPLE GUI, though crypto is among the many potential crossover vectors.

I will be sharing some ideas on "leadership" soon too. Your feedback then will be welcome too. This includes templates and sets for MANY issues from type of governance/moderation/censorship, terms of service, etc etc etc. For example, Creative Commons has 7 types of license templates to chose from. Why not have generic templates for MANY things. Obviously people could mix/match/customize/caveat as they see fit, but simpler labels (ie. like traffic light labels indicating health of food) just seems simpler and obvious.

A primary goal is to be as close to plug-and-play as possible so everyone can collaborate as they see fit. Transparency is also key, as is payment/crypto, among other things, but all these wishlist things are critical issues for our vapourware /s/PhoenixForum - and hopefully they can be implemented Cassy sooner than later. Right now our top priorities are establishing our community on decentralized platforms for anons and non-anons alike and a few other practical things we can do as soon as possible.

In addition to a decentralized forum like Lenny I'll host a PeerTube instance, MediaWiki (wiki + images + media), IPFS, and maybe Mastodon, TOR, ZeroNet, and/or other federated and alternative things. My instances will always be invite/request only because I have no interest in moderating/administrating. I'll be using SaidIt as a base-filter. I can't speak for anyone else and I expect . I'm also not a tech person, but my top priority wishes are these:

  • Develop ways to mirror and interact with the SaidIt content.
  • Develop ways to bridge these platforms (ie. forum to wiki to tube (to crypto?)).
  • Develop ways to bridge networks (ie. Internet to IPFS to TOR to ZeroNet).
  • Develop ways for anonymous folks to co-host indie-servers that are 100% controlled (at home, work, etc) with cloud-based facades protecting where their servers are by rerouting to their secret secure server and archives.
  • Develop ways to webscrape and/or archive and/or distribute all the content linked in forums and wikis.
  • Encourage others to do this too and present how to do all this and more in /s/Decentralize4Dummies.

I also hope you can get in touch with some of the teams that have been trying (and failing) to make a decentralized crypto brokerage. Maybe something can be learned from their failures?

Excellent idea. While testing out some things, I think we need to first outline our motives, goals, a roadmap, wishlist, etc. This can include as many details as we can come up with and importantly a TL;DR clear simple overview outline. With this as our sort of primary mission statement we can try to appeal to developers and common people alike.
