The term has been around for generations.

It's exactly what it means, but does not assume their job is non-essential. It assumes they both have jobs that can support a family with kids, but they live an upper-middle income lifestyle instead. The negative connotation from it comes from either jealousy of their freedom+financial status, or people thinking they are "selfish" for not having kids.

And it's never really associated with what the OP mentions. The term originated in New England as an insulting reference to idiots.

We are referring to the acronym "dual income; no kids", not to be confused with the word you linked.

"The negative connotation from it comes from either jealousy of their freedom + financial status, or people thinking they are "selfish" for not having kids."

"Jealousy??" This sounds like projection and running defense to me. Who TF is jealous of people like this? Also never heard of the implication of anyone being "selfish" at other people not having kids. There was no real DINK hostility shown here except the way corporations now see them as the "modern audience."

Are you a proud DINK who was deeply offended by this post? Cause it sounds a lot like it the way you're defensively "snapping back" like this.

Are they not selfish? And stupid?

Mr. Dink on Doug was a play on this term, he always had money for stuff that was "very expensive" and he and his wife had no kids. That was in 1991

Bud Dink was a not-so-secret pedophile and we all knew this.

But yeah, I guess you're right. Like "simp" though, the term has made a comeback after 40 or so years, and I wasn't aware of that.

Back in the 1980s it was common. The acronym was in TV shows and movies.

During the Vietnam War, the US soldiers said the derogatory slang "Dinks" when referring to the Vietnamese people.

One of my Aunts is a DINK. The term has been around a while. It's a fun lifestyle when you're young enough to party.

It's often cuz the woman is sterile. They lie and say it's by choice out of shame. Hey could adopt but people all want a real kid.
