Only if you read the corrupt orthodox interpretation into it. It works just as well as a path to what some would call "enlightenment".

You do get to a point where you trust him 100%. But you get there in the first place because it becomes evident that he's never wrong and doesn't lie.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the last books the church wants you reading. They want you to read their fake letters from Paul, Peter, James, Jude, and John, which they wrote to counter the authentic books. The authentic books themselves have also been heavily edited and added to. In the 2nd century Luke was missing the first whole 3.5 chapters. The church covered this one up by claiming Marcion wrote the shorter variant by cutting out material, even though Marcionites used various different gospels (some resemble Mark, Luke, or John). Matthew was significantly shorter and different (which is why academics see a missing "Q" source), and evidently John also. And don't even get me started on Paul. It is entirely evident based on the structure and style that a huge percentage of his letters is actually interpolations, especially in the really long ones Romans and 1 Corinthians (which explains why they're way longer than letters were in that culture). And yes I mean in the real ones, not even counting the complete forgeries. Expansion isn't always a bad thing and it was the norm back then, but there are some things that were obviously added by the church or some other sect with an agenda.
