I know a couple who begged for funds on Facebook because they were moving. He had a sob story about losing his job because of Covid (everyone who knows him knows he's a loser who can't hold a job); she was going to start school in another state. They move. They get a new car. They go to Disneyland. FB documents it all. Then, suddenly, school doesn't work out for her, and his latest gig-economy job isn't working out. Soon there is another FB request for handouts "because covid and bad luck".

Certainly along the lines of what I'm talking about here. Man maybe I'm fucked up but I'd expect pitchforks if I pulled something like that. I'd expect someone to walk up to me and tell me to get fucked if I wrote shit like this all over my truck. I just don't get it. It's just so entitled and audacious to me. It's also insulting, I just took my daughter to Universal, I dropped a ton of cash, it sucked, but if I didn't have it, the last thing I'd do is ask strangers for the money, I just wouldn't go. All the while I'd bet dollars to donuts these people made zero personal sacrifices to get what they want.

This is not the most outrageous thing this guy has done. He also asked my spouse to write a recommendation letter for a job for which he lacks at least a decade's worth of experience (not to mention a work ethic and a track record). There are some contextual details that make the request even more absurd and insulting, but I'm going to refrain from disclosing them to maintain some anonymity.
