In Sweden the sugar industry helped fund a study in 1945 giving patients from a mental hospital large amounts of sugar in order to clear themselves of the idea that sugar damaged teeth. The study didn't give the results they were hoping and instead the report suggested children should only eat candy once a week. A practice still followed by some in Sweden today.
