Whitewashing sugar goes back all the way to the 1960s, with a certain well-known high-profile institution taking kickbacks from sugar producers. There was a NYT article about this published in about 2016 (can dig it up if anyone is interested).

The well-known institution was Harvard. Money is more important to some folks than presnting truth without reservation. It wasn't just a little white lie. Those assholes "facts" led a couple of generations of people to eat sugary shit thinking it was actully better for them than traditional snack foods containing fats.

Well, since you're actually going to name the culprit I'll just go ahead and link the article: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/13/well/eat/how-the-sugar-industry-shifted-blame-to-fat.html

But MUH SCIENCE!

The problem is obviously not science

Yes, we both agree. I'm just not articulate enough to do a proper analysis and stick to passive aggressive humor.

But your comment is insightful, according to 2 others on Saidit. Quite articulate for us, it seems.

That's why I'm here, you guys get me, ya know?

In Sweden the sugar industry helped fund a study in 1945 giving patients from a mental hospital large amounts of sugar in order to clear themselves of the idea that sugar damaged teeth. The study didn't give the results they were hoping and instead the report suggested children should only eat candy once a week. A practice still followed by some in Sweden today.

I knew a pub landlady who let her kid help herself to Coca-Cola at the bar all day. When she was 10 the kid had to have every tooth in her head taken out, mostly adult teeth. But funnily enough the kid never got fat, probably because she was hyperactive and it hurt to eat.

Well, the people in the big corporations have been responsible for several crimes so we should keep an eye on the different cases they have been involved in.

The Coca-Cola company paid scientists to downplay how sugary drinks helped in the obesity crisis of the US. Coca-Cola have also been involved in crimes over here in Latin America, I've even heard they funded their own paramilitary groups in Colombia.

The sugar water and fire water industries are brutal, despite their branding - and they've been making people fat for more than just 2013-2015.

Arguably their worst crime: replacing the cane sugar with high-fructose corn syrup.

Europe always used cane sugar and has most of the same problems.

Because I'm 600+lbs it's safe to say I don't care about the the problems and only care about the taste (and how much I can fit in may bellay!).

My biggest problem is that I'm only 4'2" tall.

Seriously? That EC stack I just mentioned is great for dieting. Might want to check with a cardiologist first, to see if your heart can take it. The slightly good news is that the weight drops off quicker the farther you are from an ideal weight

It's good that quality water can still be found. It's the only decent replacement for the drinks out there, besides the natural energy drinks.

What natural energy drinks do you recommend?

[–]jet199 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

I'm pretty sure plain old milk performs better than most energy drinks.

[–]RatherSmallPotato 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Full fat low sugar chocolate milk is the single best recovery drink I've ever had. Granted, not everyone's stomach can handle milk.

Ugh. I don't like the moo juice. Cheese and stuff, sure, but milk is ick.

A decade ago I used to like trying all the new energy drinks. I've since found that flavoured water and caffeine pills are more precise and cheaper.

EC stack is my fav, ephedrine and caffeine. Ephedrine is almost identical to meth except it has an extra carbon group (or some bullshit) that keeps it from being fun/super addictive.

Coconut water?

[–]HibikiBlackCaudillo[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Tamarind juice is good for regulating sugar. Coconuts are good too, but they are also very "charged" with different nutrients.

Why do people think this is a mistakes of the past only kind of thing? Do we really not think when fossil fuels are done and solar or other renewables are in place the next big thing like hydrogen isnt going to bring studies out about how big solar wasn't hiding or manipulating studies.

C'mon people

Anyone who's decently healthy and keeps track of different studies on eating, sugar and carbs can see this shit changes weekly

Yeah this has been known for a long time.

Didn't somebody write a book about how dodge diet coke is?
