It's a British term the Americans adopted.
That's why it's a bit out of date.

Not sure if originated in the UK, but may be more in more popular use there. Glenn Close herself seems to have coined the term. "The first use of it in print is from an interview Close gave to the US magazine the Ladies' Home Journal". https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/bunny-boiler.html
I heard the term used when I was kid here in the US.
