I used to do "Local Sort" which is part time in the evenings, unloading the delivery trucks that would come in. I had amazing benefits, which was good. I wanted to be a driver for the $$$ but the seniority list was nearly a decade to become a full time driver. So, I got another part time job and stayed with UPS for 3 years, and what made me quit was seeing guys who were like me, but had much more seniority and when most of them became drivers, they would come in late at night, sometimes crying, saying "I can't fucking do this". These are guys with no college degree, families, bills, and they would quit because that job is a fucking nightmare. Its not delivering pizzas.

Maybe you should learn to drive a delivery truck, have the physical strength to move heavy packages to people's doorsteps, and a union to negotiate your next contract... or jump jobs until you reach the same salary like most people in silicon valley.

Perhaps you should read that I am already an Architect, and people making more than me actually live in an area which MUCH higher cost of living, ie silicon valley, and if they lived anywhere else or remote would be making much less than me.

This is pay plus benefits.

Prior to the new deal, the company said drivers earned about $95,000 in pay annually on average or about $42 an hour, and another $50,000 in benefits.

If the increase is proportional, this brings their salary to $111K which is amazing for a driver. The article doesn't break this down by driver type and I expect their cross-country tractor trailer drivers are making more than their door-to-door delivery drivers.

I wonder how many actual full time drivers they have too, and how many will get their hours cut because of this

I don't doubt that, just seems a tad odd that a job 75% of the population could do is being THAT much, while very high end jobs are not even paid that much. Hey, good for them, they making bank.

Shit, I need to move to the USA and become a driver.

But this is absolute insanity.
