I think it's very unlikely doctors told them they needed an abortion for a cleft palate.

Assuming people do not want > 10 kids, are fertile, and the probability of a deformed baby is low, not aborting is irrational and brings unnecessary costs for society as well as for the baby (by having a more difficult life).

If we follow "all life is precious" logically, then all women should be pregnant all the time, because if literal platinum were coming out of their vaginas concentration camps are exactly what would happen to optimize "production".

Their claim that they will support the child forever is also just a blatant lie.
