Files transferred from disk can be restored from said disk, cloud notwithstanding.

Download a gparted live iso and use gparted to recover your files. It's free and easy. Also, this can be done with about any live Linux iso.

What? Gparted doesn't scan for deleted files, and it doesn't read APFS partitions.
