And let me take a wild guess, that lack of samples is because they don't want to risk racially profiling black people with biometric ID systems like this?

I think thats pretty close to what I gathered from working in A.I. for a few years

The industry narrative is "non-black researchers are just implicitly biased and favor non-black samples", which may or may not be true, but I doubt is the entire picture even if it is.

Because I will also say that nobody wants ethnic data in those datasets, because they are fucking terrified the A.I. will learn statistic relationships that are considered 'racist'. I always see that kind of demographic info intentionally omitted, even where it would be relevant, such as when using it to diagnose diabetes and heart disease from patient records and labs. There has been a huge fear of creating racist A.I. for a long time. Although in this case, it made the A.I. more racist to ignore 'blackness' in the datasets
