You're right. Perhaps Fauci's relatives were appalled by what he's done. Perhaps they've disowned him, or perhaps they talk to him only because he's blackmailed them into keeping in touch. Perhaps he abuses his family to a point where they have such low self esteem they stick around with him and go along with whatever he wants. It does take a strong person to cut an abusive family member out of your life.

However, while it is one thing to be related to a large scale criminal, it is another thing entirely to support what that criminal is doing and benefit personally from it.
