It is all an ego trip, they don't want to show any interest and when they do it is like they have better things to do so you better be worth my time type of attitude. I've had a number of purely platonic female friends. Like you wrote, there's always a reason for it. It's not always terrible, sometimes you just don't feel that way about them. Other times it is because they've been passed around their friend circle like a joint already, or they're psycho.

But yeah, you can't really trust the guys, and the women are one drunken, lonely, angry night away from breaking your heart.
