That is my least favorite book of perhaps all time and I would rather read an instruction manual, but I do own it, so... It would be convienient.

It is an instruction manual. How could you not realize it ?

It is section three of Tolkiens instructions to human life and overall nature.

The Hobbit is the intro. The Lord of the Rings is his assortment of "main" instructions.

And The Silmarillion is the epilogue.

    I was just listening to this. Is it just The book of genesis basically? I stopped about an hour in because it resembled the Bible, and I've already read this story.

    It is quite different, imho. The bible has this kindergarden-thing with its "protagonists".

    Tolkien hasn't. Like real life hasn't.
