I was watching Rainbow Parade cartoons from the 30s and 40s and saw this in the opening. Couldn’t find anything in Vans history about what influenced the logo. Wonder if it was a ripoff or just a weird coincidence.

I wonder how common this theme was back then. It may transcend the letter V.

True, I mean it looks like it could even go back to art deco style. Here is a modernized interpretation of a similar style. In other videos they had it solid black, but the red really stuck out.
