While I agree that wokeness is cancer, I call bullshit on this:

Those white men who had spent decades writing scripts—which had been turned into blockbuster movies and hit television shows—were no longer getting hired.

Name one. Name one scriptwriter who spent decades writing hits who can't get hired because he's white and male. They don't fucking exist.

Stories like this reveal themselves as fabrications by their vagueness. Whenever you see a sentence like this:

After the meeting, a reporter approached another editor about pursuing it. The editor told the reporter to drop it.

You can be confident you're dealing with a work of fiction.

Name one script writer who is a white, male and not Jewish who is getting hired.

It's cause they're not White, they're Jewish.

Yep, there's actually a gold rush at the moment so the old white men can get their stuff made along side the woke, it's not either/or anymore. The trouble is the to the woke everyone else are nazis as bad as Hitler so they will still try to push others out even though there's enough room for all.

Edit: will add that while I haven't heard anyone say the can't get anything made I've certainly heard people being told they can't sale certain stories because they are the wrong race. "It's such a shame this wasn't written by a non binary Asian women because then everyone would be jumping to make it but as it is it's a no" type bullshit.

Mel gibson recently put out a movie that was universally censored by Google, social media, and obsolete media. You never heard of it. What else have we never heard of? Who would risk millions to make something in that environment?

It's not a gold rush. It is a walled garden.

[–]jet199Instigatrix 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

He got it made which means everyone got paid.

I notice you don't name the film, just let people assume it's been censored.

Because if anyone bothers to look at a list of the films he's released over the past few years people will realise all of them are in fact available on at least one of the major streaming services, which is where people actually search for content.

That matters far more than Google or press reviews. Many good films and shows make big money on streaming with zero publicity. The trouble is stars are used to putting it mediocre stuff and having ad campaigns create the audience for them.

Making excuses for the powerful again.

[–]jet199Instigatrix 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

You tell me which of his recent films was censored then?

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I don't know. Because it was censored. That's kind of how censorship works.

[–]jet199Instigatrix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They didn't say the film wasn't released.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

ignore him jet he's a bot that says that to everyone

Chippy is the most aptly named saiditor after Socks.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

yeah they give themselves names saying what they are, it's the thing where they feel they don't get bad karma and go to hell if they tell you the truth and you do nothing about it.

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Nope, not a bot. I just learned to spot power imbalances and now can identify them with ease.

We should all be banding together to defend the little guy and punch up against the powerful. NEVER the other way around.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'd agree on that. But also not feel bad for jewish writers out of work.

[–]jet199Instigatrix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Mel Gibson isn't the little guy.

He's someone who could ruin my life with a text message if I gave him the wrong coffee.

Maybe go outside now and then and you'll understand how the real world works.

[–]Chipit 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Power imbalances are relative. We aren't talking about you and me. We're talking about Mel Gibson vs. Netflix, Hollywood, Big Tech, etc.

He's someone who could ruin my life with a text message if I gave him the wrong coffee.

Really? How do you know that?

[–]jet199Instigatrix 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've seen that kind of thing happen.

My own heads of department wouldn't have the power in this economy to blacklist anyone in matter how bad because they just need bodies to fill seats. We currently have people who don't know their alphabet or have stalked their bosses back working.

However even now there are people who are perfected good at what they do but can't get a job because a star didn't like them for some reason. Those famous people have huge influence across studios and other stats, they all pull together, whether the star themselves is liked or not.

It's a matter of hierarchy. The studios might not like Gibson but they will always like him more than you and me. If he says you're shit they will agree and pass it on. This is how Weinstein operated. Everyone hated him and he had no say at the big studios but if he said not to work with someone they went along with it because he was one of them. Peter Jackson was turning down people for Lord of the Rings and he didn't know why. He just knew it was the received wisdom not to work with them. Of course it was because they'd turned Weinstein down for sex.

I like your username.

[–]Fusrodamus 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks. It's the most clever thing I've ever come up with, but I can't tell anyone I know IRL or I'll get cancelled.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

there's a lot of them but they're afraid to come out and complain publically cuz they get cancelled.

[–]Fusrodamus 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Let me guess, they're from Canada, you met at Niagra Falls, I wouldn't know them?

I don't believe you.

If they're not getting hired because they're white men, then they're already cancelled and have nothing to lose by coming forward. And even if none of them want to, nothing's stopping other people from posting anonymously.

You, for example. If you know of any, then post a few names. It'll be easy to look them up on IMDB and see a writer with decades of hits who can no longer get hired. If you don't know of any, then your statement is baseless.

it's well known sorry, that debate is long over
