I wanted to make sure.

Because that was the last thing I wanted her to think.

She needed me.

"I'm good," I finally answered.

She smiled weakly.

"Come on, I'll walk you to your room."

I stood, but she wrapped her arms around me, pulling me in close.

I leaned against her, closing my eyes as she kissed my hair.

When we broke apart, I said, "You didn't have to do that."

"I know."

She pulled away, gripping my shoulders and forcing me to look at her.

Sometimes it's the bad things that get me through the day.
