The problem with "trolling" is that the word nominally means "person expressing insincere views to upset people" but in practice overwhelmingly means "person expressing sincere views which upset me"

No, trolling people is helpful. What we mean when we say trolling is essentially just provoking someone to react to something said.
Informing the public, reversing brainwashing or helping someone get a better perspective for something they don't really seem to grasp all are bolstered noticeably via provocation. Provocation is a potent teaching mechanism. This is why Socrates seems very insightful without being aggressive and still maintaining efficiency.
