All fun and games until it has an automatic weapon in its hand. Then your compliance will be appreciated.

Yeah this is the Starship Troopers dancing sales pitch but maybe underneath I feel there could be something cyberpunk or dystopia about this.

I don't know if it's the uncanny valley, but my first instinct is we need to kill them with fire before there's a Faro plague.

If you want to imagine the end of western society, just imagine a LGBTQIAIDS friendly robot twerking over your grave, forever

The dog one scares me... I have a feeling it could track and follow me for days, until I was exhausted.

Haha the funny part is the batteries on these things probably have a lifetime of about 4 hours. And the more you work it out, the faster the battery dies.
Could just spray it with water but they'll probably make it waterproof eventually. Then maybe pour acid on it to break the waterproof barrier, wait a bit, then throw water on it.
I've also seen drones are pretty terrible at dealing with things like nets. So you could probably just wrap it in a fishing net. Also could just shoot it. Even shoot it with a paintball gun and cover the visual sensors.
Then there's also software options like GPS spoofing, gaining wireless access through backdoors... Also a strong EMF gun pointed at it would probably work.
Yes, this is good positive thinking. I guess it will probably come down to how many robots they decide to send after you. But I'm hearing that our go bags are gonna need like 20lbs of space for anti robot measures.

I came across an article, the battery life on the robot dogs is even worse than I expected, it's just 90 minutes!
The robot can operate on rocky, unsteady terrain, traveling up to 3 mph, with a battery life of about 90 minutes
https://qz.com/1715122/boston-dynamics-spot-robot-is-finally-going-on-sale/
Only 3mph too. But I'm guessing that will improve to surpass human running speed (on flat terrain) in the next decade. Going in the thick woods and brush would probably guarantee you could outrun it, especially if you ran up a stream or swam across a pond... I doubt those things could handle being in any depth of water, both electrically and in terms of how their programming conducts their balance and movement.
It would be cool if there was emp remote/proxy "mines" a person could throw on the ground that would sent out a strong emp wave when the robot walks over it. That'd be the ultimate defense against robots. Maybe even the mine itself could be a little moving robot that seeks out the big robot by its emf signature strength and places itself nearby before releasing the emp wave that disables both. Using the robots to fight the robots haha

What you're ignoring is
how early in development these are
This is what they're showing us so you know the real tech is FAR beyond this.
They're very aware of the weaknesses (nets, water, acid, etc) so they're guaranteed to be focused on improving to overcome.
All those theories go out the window when there are 100 of them together complete with their own drones, mobile support, etc.
Be VERY afraid, folks. When these things start up as soldiers, we're fucked.

We're probably 10 years from them being soldiers for basic tasks, and probably 20 years from robocop, I'd guess. But they will have weaknesses. It's impossible to make a robot completely failproof (or any system for that matter)

EMP and they're done. Flesh and Blood robots are still the most dangerous. They are here right now, and there's no shortage of them. Also they are cheap as fuck.

We're probably 10 years from them being soldiers
You're a damn fool if you think that. Do you think they're posting the newest tech on jewtube?

Do you think the military uses their newest tech in the field? No
[–]mongre 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun - 4 years ago (1 child)
Yes. New tech is tested in the field but not openly and consistently. This subject is huge, though. It's going to be a massive step when the first group of robots are publicly deployed for autonomous "service".
[–]magnora7[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun - 4 years ago (0 children)
Yes it will be. I think they will first be deployed as bomb-sniffing bots and things like that. It will be a long time before there are robot police that do human-robot interactions, that's an entirely different level of difficulty.

CGI much, lol
I don't think it is lol. It does have that uncanny valley vibe for sure though
