There are only a couple of regulated brokers in the United States

Also there really isn't the Linux version and if you click the link for downloading the Linux version you're going to find out that it's simply instructions on how to run a Windows version using wine

Thank you for your time

I am sorry for not doing all the work required, but in my defense, a company using the Linux logo when all they have is a Windows build, is probably infringing on the Linux trademark (as evidenced by me being confused, which is generally the bar for misuse of trademarks). On the other hand, an actually supported version of the application should probably work, although perhaps your own tests have shown worse performance (etc.). Some wine applications work faster on Linux than on Windows, however.

It would have been more honest, if they had used a wine glass (for wine) instead of a Linux logo, because the platform is arguably wine, not Linux.

If I had a billion dollar hedge fund, I'd get rid of Windows and use the wine build in testing, until I was happy with the performance. If you are below $10M, not changing anything would make sense.

However, after actually reading their instructions, it's obvious to me that these people are ignorant regarding Linux. I'd run from anyone with a business that is so confidently stupid, just like your "Thank you for your time" was probably intended as "Thanks for wasting my time". I get it.

Actually native multi-broker Linux programs seem to be non-existent or hard to find. If you ever learn of such a program, please reply.

Quite interesting that MetaTrader was banned from the App store. Do you know why that happened? (Also an excellent reason for not using any computer where you can't control the software installed, although with something like MetaTrader you never know whether there isn't something anti-user hidden).

That is actually not true if I want to tell you to piss off I will tell you directly.

I was saying thank you for your time.

I do not know the reason why meta Trader was temporarily banned from the Play Store and I won't speculate other than to say that I find it interesting that they sell their software server to unregulated and criminally minded offshore brokerages. God only knows why they got banned from the Play Store.

I wish I had software that would allow me from the command line to read my account information such as balance equity and profit loss and to open and close trades and to read my current open trades all from the command line.

One thing that I find very questionable about the meta Trader software is that they advertise worthless trading robot software inside of the platform under the market tab and they charge up to $30,000 for these softwares

Again I say that I appreciate your time

This can be automated quite easily. (Read: a top student that can program can get this working in a week. You can probably also get it to work if you ask ChatGPT for the how. If you are really serious about this, I could also build something.)

I'd expect it's a money laundering scheme, then.

Again I say that I appreciate your time

I am just happy we both can share something of interest or at least attempt to do so. I was not aware of wine for Android.

Setting up something where I can use trading functions that run at the command line can only be done if the broker allows it.. the broker has to have an API setup that I can communicate with in order for me to do that and so automating it is not something you can do unless the broker wants you to do it. Unless of course there's something you know that I don't know.

Just FYI I have been programming for 40 years I started programming on an Atari 400 / 800 in 1983 programming Atari basic with line numbers and then I transition to assembler and then in 1991 I began programming C language.

In 1993 I was incarcerated and I had a job writing software C language code by hand and mailing it to my client no chance to compile it or test it I wrote my code double spaced on legal pads and I filled as much of the lines as I could with code I wrote One program that was 43.5 legal pad pages long double spaced it had full on screen editing a database editor form it handled all four arrow keys it handled the backspace key the delete key you could create a record edit a record save a record delete a record and search for a record.

I earned $50 per week while I was incarcerated and received a $1,500 bonus the day I walked out.

My code that I wrote by hand was absolutely perfect it ran exactly as expected.

When I got out of jail and got my $1,500 bonus I flipped that into $12,000 in 2 weeks.

In other words I am a somewhat capable programmer.

Kind regards

are not the same. I was saying that I could make anything available via command line that is available to you by interacting with a window. API connectivity has got nothing to do with those.

So, assuming there is a BUY and a SELL button in the application, I can make a command line program that allows you to BUY and SELL without touching your mouse.

Are you saying that you can take the metatrader windows application and create a command line interface to what it does?

I did not know that this is doable.

I would be so happy to replace my windows metatrader 4 application with a command line interface.

Are you saying that you can take the metatrader windows application and create a command line interface to what it does?

Yes. Why would you think this can't be done?

A trivial proof is that you could buy a robot and attach a camera with some machine vision libraries with technology from after 2005. The more practical solution is to the same all in software.

How and why did you change your username?

It wouldn't replace the windows metatrader 4 application. It would just not require you to sit in the same room, but you would have your own API to interact with the application while you sit on your yacht or whatever on for example a Linux system.

[–]HonkyTonky 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

I've been writing code mostly C language for 40 years and I don't know any way to just sit down and write a command line interface to accomplish what my meta trader 4 Windows application does.

I've been messing around with metatrader for 20 years and if there was a way to do this I would have seen somebody that is doing it.

How and why did you change your username?

I have multiple Android phones in front of me all connected to the same hotspot and they have different usernames on them, that's easy to do. Occasionally i have conversations with myself

If it's any consolation, I am really smart.

My first hard drive for a pc at was ten or twenty megabytes and it cost me $250.00 back in the early 1980's.

I scored a one gigabyte external drive back in 1991, it was $3,500.00 I stole that in one of my fraud deals.. I sold it for $1k, it sold quick, I sold it way too cheap.

I was a dark web pirate before anybody knew about the dark web.

I don't know if you're aware but there is actually a wine app for Android but I don't know how well it works because I have not tried it
