Can you have a cinema experience at home? If not, can you watch old movies on cinemas?
submitted 9 months ago by bucetao6969 from self.technology
I don't understand the hype around the image quality of oppenheimer. When it gets released to the small screen is it possible to have the same quality?
If not, is there a way to watch old movies on their cinemas like the watchers intended?

I had no idea until this moment there was anything special about the picture quality. I mean... It's a docudrama.
Once the format gets downgraded for smaller screens I think a lot is just lost.

There was a whole "thing" about a specific media format only 30 *teathers in the world could show (it isn't even avaible on my country). I heard some people even travelled just to watch that format.
I don't know if something that could capture even the basic format most theaters have exist as home tech, I was wondering here.

Yes and no, IMAX, generally no. I have been to see a few "showings" the space and nature documentaries should be seen this way. Crap from hollywood does not need the size or resolution. I unfortunately paid to see Avatar in 3d imax, what a waste of three hours. For the normal movie experience, I prefer my home setup to going to the multiplex. We currently have a 75" 4k tv with a atmos 9 speaker system. At home i can adjust the speaking volume up and the explosions down, pause and rewind, and more importantly I do not have people i do not want to be near there.

Do you think it could be possible or are they making it?

I feel my set-up does just fine for me. I don't like theaters. I see no need to sit in the dark with a bunch of strangers, paying $20 for a small coke, and god forbid if I need to take a leak, missing part of the movie I just spent way too much money to see. I have a decent home theater sound system, a 60" 1080/hd TV (your eye can't really see much higher definition), and best of all, privacy. And as it stands, these movies come to streaming so soon, I can wait.
