Dangerously few browser choices out there. It's always good to support the options, otherwise they cease to exist and you end up here.

I'm rocking Vivaldi so far. It's like Opera used to be, but better.

Interesting. Is this not Chromium based (like I believe Opera is now)?

Mozilla: how can we further reduce our already dwindling market share?

[–]BidensLaptopMatters 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

On the contrary, this may be their bid to increase their market share amongst woke leftists.

I'm sure they believe that! Unfortunately the number of woke people is actually pretty small. They're just very noisy due the woke cult domination of the media, social or otherwise.

2014 was when the Mozilla Foundation cancelled its founder, Brendan Eich, for donating to the Prop 8 campaign in CA.

This is how a browser dies.

Haven't used Firefox in a decade.

Brave browser is light years better.

Yes, that's the benefit of using open source, is you can fork it and make something else without starting from scratch.

have you found the built in comment plugin?

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

I've seen it mentioned, what's it do?

    [–]EvilNick 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

its in the top right of he browser, a green "D". YOu click it and it basically opens a secondary proprietary comment system on whatever page your on thats outside the website itself. its not part of that websites comment section at all but allows you to avoid moderation and comment on stuff that even doesnt allow it.

its great for sites like IGN that are festeringly over moderated by the wrong types of people

Jesus Christ it's going to be very soon identical to China levels of censorship

    [–]Drewski 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Where has Mozilla said anything about implementing browser level blocking?

    [–]Trajan 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't see that specifically stated in their announcement, and you raise a very good point.

It seems the author of the article linked is inferring it. I don't think Mozilla will by default introduce blocking. They're not completely insane, even if they seem bent on pushing the kind of censorship they'd have railed against a decade ago. The worst I can imagine is they'd install an ad-on, one that can be disabled, that 'fact checks' content. This would of course be fact-checking provided by the likes of Snopes and the ADL.

what business has a software development co. have to do with politics?

    [–]SerpensInferna 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

These people don't care about the financial bottom line, they are driven by their radical ideology. They go into businesses and utterly destroy them. "Go woke go broke" has been proven true over and over again.

    [–]projectparanoid 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Serious question: Does anyone know of a browser that is NOT a derivative or fork of either Chrome (Chromium) or Firefox?

I realize Microsoft Edge and Opera exist, but I refuse to use those for other reasons, mostly privacy related. Brave and all the others are derivative of Chromium (which is still Chrome/Google).

I read recently (though the article seems to have been buried/removed now) that even though Chromium is fully open sourced, very few people had actually reviewed all the code. As I recall, it turns out there is still google tracking code built into the Chromium core, which is why I say it is still Google.

I realize my claim is a bit unsubstantiated here, and if I can find the article again, I will certainly follow up by posting it.

To summarize, supposing that it's no longer safe (from a privacy and censorship perspective) to use anything based on Chromium or Firefox, and that other more "commercial" browsers (like Opera and Edge) are out, what other options are there?

I think what I'm getting at, is that there is essentially a browser monopoly as well. I remember 20-25 years ago, when it seemed like everyone was trying to make a better web browser so there were literally hundreds to choose from. Many of them did not share the same codebase, so you really were getting a unique implementation each time.

Sorry for the wall of text/rant, but I'm curious as to opinions or suggestions for alternate browsers.

The words MAGAt's and conservatives can be used interchangeably; they are one and the same. If you're a conservative then you support Repubtards and by extension, the dear leader himself. You are a scoundrel and enabler and should be censored at the mouth level.

Not that anyone here is using chrome but do they or are they palning the same thing for their browser? If so could Google implement the same censorship directly to their android OS?
