The most famous book in the world literally has a story about someone named jesus who was killed for telling jews not to pay taxes to the ceaser. He also turned over the money changers tables...

He actually told people to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

rendering unto ceasar's what is caeser's does not necessarily mean to give him taxes. It just means what it says. maybe people don't have anything of his that needs to be rendered to him...

And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king."

They began to state their case: “This man has been leading our people astray by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king.”

There are ten more versions or translations that say the same thing.

aperently one time he payed his taxes with a fish that happened to have a coin in his mouth. lol that's some ancient trolling.

They were actually talking about a Roman coin before Jesus mentions the whole "render unto caesar..." thing, so by the context, the topic of taxes is definitely one of the things the Pharisees was using for testing Jesus.

Also, the Jews were just begging Pilate to crucify him, thus throwing false accusations against Jesus to Pilate which is seen in that Luke chapter.

But basically, the whole point of "rendering unto Caesar" is obeying the law. Paying taxes, not bribing, etc.
