pretty much the state we all live in. Wage slaves 'fortunate' enough to have a key to our own cell.

Or you could just set up your own business like someone with a spine.

My parents did that, they pulled themselves out of poverty. Guess what? They aren't happy, they work 24/7, and they have no time to raise their youngest kids. What a dream, this America.

Yep, social mobility doesn't make people happy. We measure success and discrimination mostly by economic status but this is not the same thing as happiness.

This is why moaning about wage slavery is very much a matter of perspective. Most people don't really want the stress, risk or responsibility of running their own business. But they get spoilt so want to blame someone else for the little problems they do have.

I think the main problem is that we aren't building self-sufficient farms like our ancestors did. We aren't working with nature, farming our own food, or interacting with our families/communities on a deeper level. If we are wage slaves, creating a self-sufficient farm is much harder, and often, scoffed at as being unpractical or worthless (not a lot of money comes from it). Now, I don't fully agree with the inability to move up in the world, that is a hard claim to stand by.

That sounds like it might involve work. It would be much simpler if the government just confiscated some of your money and sent it to the NEET that made this post.

but what if I was successful? I hate this town.
That's a good idea--I will start again someplace else.

They point to the glass walls of the cell and tell you to be thankful. If you keep complaining or working to fix the problem, they point to the dungeon below and say "Would you rather go there?"

People do this all the time to defend the modern era. They say it's so clean, such good life expectancy, so little manual labor...they point to the glass walls and tell you to be thankful or STFU. If you don't STFU, they point to communist China and say "would you rather be there?" I'd rather live in the land of my ancestors.

Do you think your ancestors didn't work as hard as 21st century Americans?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Lmao why do you think I'm lazy because I criticize the west? No, you nut, they worked harder and were better for it. Edit: nothing I said in my OP had to do with work, so you really are just grasping at straws.

The most famous book in the world literally has a story about someone named jesus who was killed for telling jews not to pay taxes to the ceaser. He also turned over the money changers tables...

[–]sadocgawkroger 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

He actually told people to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

[–]iraelmossadreddit 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

rendering unto ceasar's what is caeser's does not necessarily mean to give him taxes. It just means what it says. maybe people don't have anything of his that needs to be rendered to him...

And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king."

They began to state their case: “This man has been leading our people astray by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king.”

https://biblehub.com/luke/23-2.htm

There are ten more versions or translations that say the same thing.

aperently one time he payed his taxes with a fish that happened to have a coin in his mouth. lol that's some ancient trolling.

[–]sadocgawkroger 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They were actually talking about a Roman coin before Jesus mentions the whole "render unto caesar..." thing, so by the context, the topic of taxes is definitely one of the things the Pharisees was using for testing Jesus.

Also, the Jews were just begging Pilate to crucify him, thus throwing false accusations against Jesus to Pilate which is seen in that Luke chapter.

But basically, the whole point of "rendering unto Caesar" is obeying the law. Paying taxes, not bribing, etc.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

that did mean pay your taxes but jesus was a bandit aka revoltuionary who definitely would not say pay taxes to caesar, that part was put in the bible long after jesus died and when Romans wanted to use the religion to make jews stop revolting against their rule.

well it was written by matthew who was a tax collector

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

he might be the one to betray jesus and not judas.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

You are misinterpreting this. Caesar has no right to you or your property. He is basically saying do not render unto Caesar what is not Caesars.

[–]IIllIIll 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

He also gave instructions on how to burglarize a strong man's house, and he preferred to have his lackey pour oil on his hair rather than sell it to feed poor people.

I still believe a solution is possible. If you don't let them into your blockchain too early and strictly control who has access to your currency.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I agree, but they already have control over the currency.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

With "your" currency i tried to imply you need your own. Like shells or Jewish skulls or any worthy metal. Something like that. You get the picture.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Oh, I see now. Look at me, misunderstanding you all over the place, Eli!

[–]copenseethe 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Lets start with making your bank account disappear. You probably don't have one and are hoping to benefit when wealth is redistributed.

[–]IIllIIll 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

The invention of banking, credit, insurance, is really the greatest contribution that European culture gave to the human race. The Age of Discovery was made possible by the intellectual revolution that accompanied the development of the banking industry.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

It's also led to the destruction of many cultures. It led to Europe FORCING it's "civilization and culture" to places that didn't need any of that BS. I support some things that came out of this modern era, but a whole heck of a lot of it has been shitty for most people. You whitewash history by pretending that everyone in the world benefits from the banking system. Industrialism is like nihilism. You don't stay here acting as if you just figured out the world. You use it as a way to leap forward, which has NOT been the case in the modern world.

[–]IIllIIll 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

The banking system is how private individuals can aggregate and spread types of risk, like construction projects, scientific discovery, invention, etc.

I mean, if you want to live in the 14th century, then I suppose your rejoinder makes sense. I prefer to live in the 21st century.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

I'd like to live in the future, where we mix the best philosophies, practices, perspectives, and passions which come from EVERY century. The 21st century is like nihilism....its a jumping board to bigger and better things, but it isn't the end of the road. You people never understand my criticisms.

[–]IIllIIll 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

If I people dont understand your criticism it's because you communicated it poorly and ineffectively.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I can try again, good sir. This modern society has thrown the baby out with the bathwater. It does not live in a symbiotic relationship with the planet, instead, it rapes the planet for resources. It does not take responsibility for its generational-changes. ALL MODERN GOVERNMENTS ARE COMPLICIT TO ONE DEGREE OR ANOTHER. It does not take into account the ancient wisdom of the ages: spirit runs through all things. Instead, it scoffs at this ancient teaching (which can be found in ALL ancient cultures) and has brought about an age of "enlightenment" where humans disassociate themselves from their ancestors, from their very planet. You can try and argue that this is not so....but you would be an utter fool to attempt to do so. I am NOT saying that the past societies are to be held as a shining jewel to look back on and masturbate over. Every time I make these statements, some jerk-off like you tells me to go back-then and see how I like it. I'll tell you right now that I wouldn't like it very much, beyond the joy of being able to see that which is no more. However, the baby has been thrown out with the bathwater, and it fucking shows. If this still isn't clear to you, then I am sorry. I can try again and again, but you will have to realize this for yourself. No internet forum can teach this to you.

Banking, the LLC, commercial paper, insurance, credit, etc. was a huge cognitive leap that allowed individuals to work collectively. Our modern society is a product of this cognitive revolution.

I don't believe in your fantasy. Collective work occurred without such things.
