If they had done nothing wrong then they wouldn't need to sue because they would not be concerned about being sued.
They're suing because the defamation has caused them loss of business, and security costs, as their people and their relatives have been getting threats.
Straight up normal defamation case. You told lies about me, and I'm impacted by this much money. So make the loss good.

I don't think you understand how suing for defamation works.
If they are guilty, then there's is no point in suing, because truth is a complete defence.
