He simply shows the audience actual scenes and articles.

People can review the evidence and come to their own informed conclusions/opinions.

The pope got punched in the eye, once. He isn't the only one to experience this. Some people say "aliens". Religious ecstasy makes faces go weird. People who dedicate their life to a religious organization are unusual. Thus the pope is the devil?

I don't know with any certainty what happened in any of those scenes.

Basically, the polar opposite of what people believe the church would ever consider plausible. Ever.
