Stalin took out Trotsky before fighting Hitler; Hitler took out Strasser before fighting Stalin. Totalitarians always purge their own ranks before fighting the enemy.

Strasser was not a totalitarian and he had even retired from politics. His execution was out of spite as he had withdrawn from the public scene. If they had listened to him, things would have probably turned out better.

Just pointing out that he was a very different case than that of Trotsky.
