Mask-wearing is about compliance (to the virus regime, the state), it's not about preventing the spread of a virus that has a mortality rate of less than 1% in anyone under the age of 80. Eventually the mask will give way to the vaccine and microchip, without which you will not be allowed to buy or sell.

I'll do you one better. For the vast majority of people, wearing a mask is not hugely consequential either way. Refusing to wear a mask is a way to rebel without actually posing any threat to the system.

Tell that to the asshole at a pub who coughed and spitted while I was passing by. He'd be happy to know he totally did good in not using a fucking mask because suuuuure, masks are tooootally useless.

So, we should all wear masks 24/7, just in case we get a sudden urge to spit on someone? WTF?

[–]yayblueberries 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That's disgusting regardless of mask culture/beliefs. Spitting at/on a person isn't even legal in the U.S and the d-bag could be charged with terrorism at this point for that crap.

Cloth masks are next to worthless over a virus that has around the same dangers as seasonal influenza.

[–]cynical_americano 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

not the same dangers, not next to worthless.

[–]Zahn 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

You're right, a completely worthless symbolic gesture.

[–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

ABOUT the same danger, and totally worthless.

Our elected [officials] MUST know this. Fauci was saying it as late as March. Then he started saying the exact opposite. WTF is going on here?

        [–]Klondike 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (16 children)

Fauci was saying don't buy medical masks because there was a shortage and our first responders and hospital staff needed them more.

        [–]Velocity 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If I recall, the Surgeon General originally said they don't work. Fauci called them symbolic.

        [–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

He also was saying MASKS DON'T WORK AGAINST VIRUSES, and they only make people 'feel better'.

        [–]Klondike 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Back in March we knew less overall about the virus. The guidance from the WHO at the time was also that masks were likely ineffective.

Austria was one of the first countries to implement a mask mandate and they almost immediately saw a massive decrease in the number of new cases. Other places followed suit and also got results.

But Sweden didn't, and their numbers have bottomed out. The entire POINT is that viruses have been studied for 100 years. We KNOW paper and cloth masks DO NOT WORK, we have known it for decades. https://thecrowhouse.com/memes/masked.JPG

        [–]Klondike 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Umm Sweden isn't doing well though?

on a per-capita basis, Sweden far outpaces its Scandinavian neighbors in COVID deaths, with 567 deaths per million people compared with Denmark's 106 deaths per million, Finland's 59 deaths per million, and Norway's 47 deaths per million. The Swedish figure is closer to Italy's 581 deaths per million.

Not sure what point you are trying to make.

        Another tidbit:

On top of that, there are no indications that the Swedish economy has fared better than in many other countries. At the moment, we have set an example for the rest of the world on how not to deal with a deadly infectious disease.

        [–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

All those deaths were old peepo with pre-existing medical conditions, just like the rest of the world. They would have 'died' of the flu if not for muh coronahoax.

My POINT is that being alive is inherently risky. Shutting down the entire world over a virus is INSANE. Our ancestors dealt with far worse, and we managed to get thru it.

        [–]Klondike 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Young people have died too numbnuts. And many of the younger people who got the virus and survived are now experiencing an increased rate of strokes.

And it's not insane. Quarantines have happened all throughout history.

our first responders and hospital staff

        (Read: the IDF)

        [–]Klondike 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Nope, people who work in hospitals.

        [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

The FBI, under Trump's instruction, confiscated 5 million N95 masks from US hospitals. 1 million of those went to the IDF, free of charge.

        [–]Klondike 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Do you have a source for that? I remember the confiscations going on, and state governors being forced to hide PPE from the feds, but I didn't hear anything about sending it overseas.

        That's pretty fucked if true.

Doesn't seem like a great source, but that's definitely fishy. I'm surprised there hasn't been more investigation into this.

The U.S. already gives them billions every year that could go toward national infrastructure, education, and other important things instead.

But there’s no money for the media if they don’t keep telling us how DEADLY and LIFE-THREATENING!!11 this virus is and they can’t control us if they can’t even get us to cover half our face so that we look like idiot sheep.

        [–]Zapped 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Why is this posted in s/politics?

        [–]Zahn 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

Because it stopped being a health concern and is now becoming a political wedge issue. Don't let a good crisis go to waste, gotta get some more miles out of this!

        [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

It's a manufactured controversy. This is the hill conservatives are supposed to die on. Not the continued existence of our people, and not the parasitic elites robbing us blind.

        [–]magnora7 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly, this is a manufactured controversy. That's the perfect way to put it. There's so much incredibly important stuff going on right now, involving trillions of dollars and huge changes in the US legal system, and they've got the peons fervently focused on a piece of cloth over their mouths.

        [–]Zahn 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Implying that the parasitic elites aren't the ones behind the whole thing?

        [–]Zapped 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it stopped being a health concern, but I do agree that this has become a political football.

I will say that I think this is a real, highly contagious disease. However, I also think some people are digging in their heels even as we learn more about this virus, including how to successfully treat it. My own opinion has changed from not worried to highly concerned, back to not worried. And, as you say, politicians are taking advantage of a "good crisis". Dang! Did you just make me answer my own question?

My personal opinion? I do have mixed feelings about the masks. I think it is like a string on your finger. They are meant to remind the "dumb masses" to remember to be careful in their physical interactions. My thought is if you are worried about catching it, then stay away from people. This will pass.

        [–]PencilPusher55 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

No, not a good argument. I mean, logically I like it - but the retort will nearly always be "Well even if it filters out just SOME of the particles, they're worth wearing". If masks cut down on 0.5% of transmitting the virus, they'd still force you to wear them.

        [–]Zahn 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Though these type of deaths are around normal for the flu, no one seemed to care at all about wearing masks for the "better good" during flu season. Totally hypocritical of mask "enthusiasts" and the medical establishment that all of a sudden cares.

        [–]yayblueberries 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

And yet, there's that one study out about how gaiters are "worse than nothing" as if the only thing anybody should be wearing HAS to be 100% effective, which was NEVER in the shitty narrative to begin with.

        [–]PencilPusher55 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, I agree with you. I'm just saying how they usually respond. It's a narrative for a reason, it doesn't have to be logical. haha
