That's just tradition.

I remember back during the Jon Stewart era, I'd see a ton of headlines like "Stewart EVISCERATES <insert evil conservative here>". It got so bad even Stewart starting making fun of some of those headlines about him.

You're right, it's just clickbait, even if the diatribe is amusing.
