Damn.. I didn't sign up for the "Yang Gang" e-mail list, so I didn't know how I ended up on their e-mail roster.. but anyone else on their email roster can attest to this; in the last 72 hours, he started sending massive amounts of e-mails requesting donations, talking about how they were going to win, and needed the support of the #yangang.

I wonder how much money he raised in those 72 hours, only to announce he was dropping out (with a nice portion of his demographic being young). He had to have known prior to 72 hours that he planned on dropping out, being a "numbers and math guy".. This seems like an exit scam to me.

The whole campaign fundraiser thing in the US just looks like a scam to me.

I remember seeing an AMA on reddit about people who investigated it, and campaign funding was spent in not so campaign stuff.

He brought a lot of eyes to the idea of an unconditional basic income, which is a win, even if he wasn't going to win the nomination.

Shit, on the real tho, is it politically incorrect for me to yell "Kobe" as I recycle and throw out the trash now? It's a habit, I've been doing it for nearly a decade at this point.

Plus, I learned it in educational facilities.. It's not my fault!

I don't think it's disrespectful, he died unfortunately but his legacy goes on, a legacy of hitting clutch shots is not bad, so much so that it bleeds into people's regular mundane lives.

But I just saw a sign for him today! I’m not kidding, it said, “Want free money? Vote for Yang!”

If it had been any bigger than the 2x5 inch index card stapled to a tree that it was, I would have made a counter sign — “Want free economics lessons? Call me.”

He’s a better option than most Dems, tho...

Free money was 50% of his platform and 90% of what anyone knows about him.

He might have been the only candidate we've ever had that is even partially aware of technology and looking toward the future. Though I think the AI takeover is (hopefully) overblown fear mongering.

Wasn't he also the only guy to not take super pac money?

There's always a couple of good candidates out there that get washed away before you're left with a shitty choice no one wants. If they arent full in with the master plan they don't get TV time and they don't get a nominee. In my opinion anyway.

tbh I wish Yang was the vice president for Bernie, but that might be asking for too much considering Bernie disagreed with ubi

Some of his ideas was too far out there. The infrastructure for UBI is still decades away. We can't even tell how many illegals are in a state. There's nothing right now to prevent abuse. You think a few people getting free food stamps is bad? People getting free money would be a hundred times worse.

Hopefully some of ideas will become possible in the future.

Right now we need to think of the present.

Infrastructure?? If you're going to steal from one group to give to another, the number of illegals is irrelevant, 100 or 100 million.

At The point you've determined this is OK as a society, things Such as increasing the tax rate from say 60% to say 90%, implementing wage caps on careers, or confiscating earnings past a certain amount while enforcing the same workload production aren't a problem.

The problem is you look at the government as giving you something.

The government doesn't produce money for itself. It gets money through different schemes which generally revert to taxing of it's citizens. When the govt decides to increase its taxes on one certain group(s) to give to another group(s), in any other circumstance we call that theft.

If you find that acceptable, please provide your street address so that the many may come and see what might be available.

Ask google. I'm sure if you sent in a request form they'd give it to you for free the same way they do for the government.

No I'm already paying enough in taxes. Why Should i pay more for the malfeasance and ineptness of the govt.

And no, Google and the govt aren't the same regardless of how you might want to believe they are and regardless both being bad actors.

Yes.

From where?

From themselves. That is the fear.

Ignoring the economic consideration (short term boost to the economy), the problem isn't getting the free money. It's not getting it. It's having to pay more taxes for something that has a chance of never benefiting them.

If UBI is created there will be strings attached. Hoops to jump through.

For those who fail to qualify the taxes supporting UBI are equal to burning money.

There are other implications and potentials for abuse as well. If you're using the money to survive the mere threat of having that last source of income removed is enough to control large portions of the populous. Depending on what tests need to be passed, and where the paperwork goes, this could lead to some people gaining an absurd amount of power over others.

Back to the economic side of things: The value of the money will drop. It will happen slowly. Eventually it will equal out to the point where UBI income won't be enough to make ends meet. All it will do is delay the inevitable.

It's a band aid fix. Not the tourniquet America desperately needs.

Again, I'm not part of the #yangang, I don't know how I ended up on their e-mail list. I honestly don't believe in "political theater", you know that. But I've been curios enough to click a few and watch some of the attached to videos to understand how "his idea" of UBI works.

He's stated in a few speeches that social media apps like Google, Twitter and Facebook have reached such a level, that they're already involved in politics, influencing elections and that politicians use them to communicate information to the general public. They also take the ad revenue, as well as data we generate as independent users, and sell it indefinitely to the highest bidders/whoever shows interest. Yang's idea (iirc, I'm not a follower of his politics), was to basically recognize Google, Twitter, Facebook and the like as government institutions that need to answer to certain rules. And as such, due to the insane profit they make off our ad revenue and selling our data indefinitely, owe it's home country that gave it a place to build it's platform and reach such an international height of use, a tax. That's where our UBI would come from; it wouldn't be stolen from anyone, as this is a virtual commodity that we as users generate.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but even still, we wouldn't get 100% profit and according to Yang's campaign, we'd be able to offer that amount to each individual household using his model, while still allowing the big tech companies to profit. Essentially a win-win situation for everyone, minus the insane greed.

But again, I don't know his politics or if the information I'm supplying on his campaign is 100% accurate as I've only seen a few of his speeches that were sent out in e-mails, such as that one he won an award for (can't find it, do a search result and everything is spammed about it him dropping out).

Not sure what's stopping them from saying no and moving to a different country. This isn't a small number of moneys we're talking about.

While a few mil (or 100 mil, depending on who got permission to get UBI) that's still enough for them to throw a fit about if they wanted to.

Now I'm curious how many Yang adds were on facebook or twitter. I can't remember seeing very many. lol
