You're the most emotional person on Saidit, always have been. I suspect you're merely defending xo.

What I kindly, generously explained to you and xo is that it is not a fair assumption that the earth is flat (for the numerous reasons you can read above). That was his claim. It's uncontroversial to say that's not a fair assumption. You can say that there are people who believe that, but it's not fair to assume it's a fact.

What's interesting in this case is that this analogy by xo offers an opportunity to point out an obvious fallacy that is common on Saidit, namely: to assume something is factual because it can appear to be factual. That in a nutshell is also Republican brainwashing. And it's so obviously false that you can use basic logic to debunk it. Moveover, scientific fact and ethical principles often debunk the false claims.

Remember Trump's claim that Haitian migrants were eating neighborhood pets? MAGATs loved that one.

Musk just said that DOGE located a survey about National Parks that cost the taxpayer $billion. MAGATs will love that one.

MAGATs also want to believe that trans people are indoctrinating children into thinking that a man can have children and women can have dicks. (It's a conflation of sex and gender that Republicans are trying to normalize.)

There are also the many anti-vax lies.

It's all called the firehose of falsehoods, and the spread of disinformation of that kind is heavily funded. MAGATs will believe whatever they're told to believe. They've been convinced that their identities rely on this alternate universe to exist.

Whatever you think you and others are seeing, you would also know that what you see is not necessarily what everyone sees or understands. No one sees the same colors, for example.

Indeed, the 'flat earth' theory hasn't "gone so far". I don't know why you'd say that, unless you like the spread of that idea.

If children are told that it's OK to tell others what the other person's gender or sex is, that's an indoctrination of the children. Children should be taught that everyone in a democracy should have equal and inalienable rights (if that's what the democracy wants). They should also learn that what they see and what they are told to believe should be understood with the help of logical thinking (sometimes called 'critical thinking'). The main job of a school is to help kids learn how to learn, so that they can have intellectual curiosity and can make educated decisions, based on logic and knowledge. If they think the earth is flat, they need to consider what is known about that assumption. If a trans person wants to be called a woman, and may not appear to be a woman, she currently has the right to be called women, regardless of what a child wants to call them.
