And if any vehical is submerged in water just about every insurance company will declare it non salvageable. So this IMO is not news.

It's news to people who don't understand the peculiar hazards here. Regular cars will just go to crap in crazy ways with electrical gremlins and secret mold and corrosion problems. Electric cars can burn the neighborhood down. As they write:

Some EV owners are unaware of the risks from flooding, he added. "I have heard EV owners say, 'I don't have an engine that can be flooded so I can drive in deep water.' That's not the case."

Yep, insurance company still pays for a totalled a car (less the deductable), though the carbon footprint for imolated cars and occasional unwitting drivers is now rather high, not to mention poisoned folks downwind thanks to toxic fluoride gas emissions from the lithium-ion car battery fires.

Very interesting.

fluoride gas emissions

Fluoride emissions, in the form of gaseous hydrogen fluoride and sodium and aluminium fluorides and unused cryolite as particulates, are the major undesirable fume component produced in the aluminium smelting process.

Lithium-ion.

Lithium-ion are in Bluetooth Headsets and Headphones, Cell Phones, Computer Peripherals, Digital Cameras, ereaders, Game Controllers, Laptops, Smoke/Fire/Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Tablets and so many other things so if the world stop making electric vehicles we would still be exposed the same dangers of toxic fluoride gas emissions and lithium-ion. So what's your next what about ?.

Don't leave them in salt water. (They're also smaller.)

I didn't argue against the making of electric cars. I'm very much in favor of them. I argue that Musky's post is newsworthy (see item to which I respond). And I'd argue that Li-ion batteries should be in water-proof containers.

Well good. Fuck Musk.

It is easy to curse Elon musk, but it is not so easy to design and build an electric car and a rocket and the so many other things that he does design.

What is your claim to fame, ikeconn?

the energy density in these modern batteries effectively make them explosives
