It cost me nothing to charge my wifes Tesla, our home is 100% solar.

How much did you invest in solar prior to the ability to charge?

Something like 30 K 20 years ago, it paid for itself if that's what your getting at. Even with upgrades two years ago

I was just curious as to the initial cost really, but you are right, that is what I was getting at. Locally, some have deals with their energy supplier to have solar panels to reduce their day to day bills, but this is not at great set-up cost. 30k to install is a considerable sum for many now, let alone 20 years ago. It may have paid off, but the initial investment would be difficult for the average energy consumer. It is the equivalent of saying that I didn't pay anything to fill up my bike with petrol yesterday because I bought a tanker full 3 years ago.

Back then the 30k was for panels, hardware and 6 battery's. My upgrades was all new everything, 24V Solar System: 2.4kW Inverter, 2kW Solar Array, MPPT and 60A Charger $1500. My Neighbor spends about $200 a month on his electric bill so that would be say 8 months to pay off $1500. It's worth it to switching over but ues the investment will hurt.

If ever I become a homeowner, it will be an investment of interest, but it would take time to be financially capable.

I hope you do become a homeowner, first lessen is save your penny's. Took me some time to save up for my solar system, then I started saving again knowing technology would advance. Side note, after I bought my server rack battery a new and much better one come out.

I've seen data that an average electrical car consumes more resources to produce before even running one mile than a fuel driven one does over his whole lifecycle.

It is just another lie they sell as an innovation.

Battery-driven cars are a dead-end as long as batteries aren't any better. At least for non-trucks, this is relatively certain.
