police SWAT team destroyed his home while trying to arrest a shoplifter who had randomly chosen the home to take refuge.

Bad luck.

when an armed Walmart shoplifting suspect who took two belts and a shirt from an Aurora, Colorado, store then ran into Lech’s home and barricaded himself there for 19 hours.

Wow. Dude stole a shirt. QUICK! Somebody call in the Navy Seals!

The fuck is this? A Judge Dredd comic?

Lech was given $5,000

5? That's all?

It's shit like this that makes me consider building a castle with a moat. Half a million dollar house blown to pieces with explosives and rammed with an armored car. Over two belts and a shirt. Imagine if, instead of destroying this dude's house, they had called him up and said, "Hey, if you pay us $150 for the stuff this guy stole we won't tear your house down. Deal?"

This wasn't some Drug Lord on America's Most Wanted.

I mean I really don't know why Americans build their houses out of chipboard rather than brick to start with.

Why would anyone build a house out of brick? What's the appeal?

Depending on the location it's sometimes cheaper and fake brick is also a lot cheaper if appearance is what you're trying to sell.

Wood is also faster to build with, which saves even more money.
