Doesn't seem like a very nice person.

A city councilman in Providence, R.I., said Friday that he will resign from his post as the body’s president pro tempore after an audio recording surfaced in which he called a transgender activist “it.”

Councilman Michael Correia apologized for the comment in a Facebook post, saying that the language he used was “inappropriate and offensive.”

In an audio recording published by WPRI-TV, Correia repeatedly referred to the activist, Justice Gaines, with male pronouns before calling her “it.”

Gaines told the news station that hearing the recording left her “hurt, upset and sad.”

“You don’t call people ‘it,’” Gaines, 26, said.

In his apology, Correia said he had met with Gaines and apologized to her directly.

“I understand these actions have broken trust between myself and the public and I am asking for the opportunity to earn back that trust,” Correia, 57, wrote in the Facebook post.

Correia’s time as president pro tempore would have run until 2023.

“You don’t call people ‘it,’”

Some people literally have "it" as their pronouns, bigot.

“You don’t call people ‘it,’” Gaines, 26, said.

Says the person who expects to addressed as 'xe, xem, or xyr'. If he demands nonsensical pronouns for attention then referring to him as 'it' is among the most polite responses he should expect to receive.

What a unique way of telling other people what they ought to think.
