If you want to enjoy their music, you're going to quite quickly come up against a wall of cognitive dissonance as you realise that it's actually you that they're mad about. So, in order to not experience dissonance, your brain creates an alternative reality where maybe RATM were just super unclear about which machine was bothering them

Wow, did you, in addition to OP, also forget that rage clearly identified the far-right power structure as the machine they were angry at? Some kind of epidemic? I know it's difficult to hold in your mind the two contrasting statements - 'i liked their music but I also like the politics of hate and division they raged against'

Rage has spoken out against police brutality, American imperialism, the Iraq war, the two party system, the oppression of the Palestinian people, and many other anti-authoritarian stances I support. I may not agree with all their politics like anti-capitalism but there is definitely some common ground. The hypocrisy comes from the Covid era, when they caved and were in favor of authoritarian measures such as vaccine passports at their shows and support of lockdowns.

This band was a fraud then and now and they are false opposition. The “machine” they rage against is the one that made their ear-raping shitlib propaganda possible. They recorded for Sony Music Entertainment. I grew up in a college town full of real indie musicians and did musical theatre, and they were a joke in terms of actually changing anything. If anything, everything they bitch about has gotten worse because of them and others like them. Shitlibs who make excuses for them are embarrassing.
