He's not an engineer. He's got a BA in Physics and a BSc in Economics from UPenn.

And a Ph.D. in being most dick parent imaginable to his transgender daughter.

Asians

In Thailand they all have a little house for the land gods outside their house and everyday they put a plastic water bottle and a plastic milk bottle on it and every day those go into the bin.

Every Asian country has some habit like that going on. They don't give two shits about the environment. They don't have the same mindset as westerners about waste or recycling. Being able to just waste things shows wealth or generosity.

Four Wyze cameras by Brewdabier in interestingasfuck

I have 4 cameras and within the last 5 hours someone broke into my garage and took two bicycles, camera did not pick up anything and when I checked the camera all I saw was me closing the door after the theft. Camera did not notify me of anything. I've filed a police report and the 4 cameras are going in the trash.

Someone should draw up a version of that with a few unexpected words so the lazy readers read it wrong.

I don't know what that means, but there are other ways of looking at the world than a pile of atoms. People who believe in that shit are frequently angry and hostile, and make the world a worse place.

Why does everything have to be literal and material? There are all sorts of ways of thinking about this world. Some are clearly better than others.

Nah, it's people gaining a larger understanding of the world. It happens as you get older. Or, it should happen. If you continue a youthful life of sarcasm and cynicism, that's such a horrible waste of a lifetime.

Twitter thread claiming that cell phones help explain the secular decline in crime since 1990. As “texting your drug dealer” replaced “finding your drug dealer on a street corner”, control of territory became less important, and violent drug gangs were replaced by less violent ordinary people. by Chipit in interestingasfuck

When I was living in Wales my road was a drugs drive thru.

People would park up their cars, call someone on their phone and then within 10 mins a black kid on a bike would knock on their window and give them a little plastic package.

Han Solo's DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol From 'Star Wars' Is Going Up For Auction. Included is a letter about the provenience of the blaster which is really interesting to read. by Chipit in interestingasfuck

Hmmm if you read through the text they describe how it was built from parts which they believed had been used to make 3 of those prop weapons for the movie but compare it with the gun in Han Solo's hand in this original photo.

https://spacequotations.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/han-solo-quotes.jpg

The scope is similar but the mount is not even close. In the text they say the original was a probably a complicated slide on dovetail which they did not try to replicate but you can see in the picture it was not that. It was a side mount bolted on with a single bolt that held the scope out to the side and if you look at the gun, you can see why the scope would have had to be side mounted because the ejection port is on the top and as they used real blank rounds in the movie the gun had to be able to function.

What Airports Were Like in 1987. How times have changed. Imagine a time when you could pull up to the airport 20 minutes before a departing flight and know that you—and your bag—had a good chance of making the flight. by Chipit in interestingasfuck

I know a guy who still does this.

It panics the staff so they rush him through.

He only flights between England and Ireland though so if he misses a flight there's usually one in another couple of hours so it's not too big of a risk.
