Yes, "sex" is simple since having a uterus makes you female while "gender" is a construct of societal norms and how a given person feels about his/her own sexuality.
In some Asian farming families there is a practice that people raised in the West find strange. If a family has all male children, one of the males is raised as a female and she assumes the role. This practice is dying off because it clashes with Western norms.
