Thanks for this. I had no idea. Now when I search for - Scott Smith garland fbi - I see only numerous right wing news sources focusing on him as a victim of the Attorney General, a school board, transgender people, rapists &c. It seems the FBI were called because he threatened parents and the board, not because he said: "what are you doing about it?" He obviously has very good reasons to be upset. But he also did something that warranted a visit by the FBI. All of this will pass like other moments in the news cycle. Right-wing news will continue to post transgender hatred. I hope the Scott Smith sees that justice is served, however. He's right that the school board fucked up, which is an abuse of his daughter and others. Seems he could win a lawsuit over this. But he'll have to stop threatening people.

The right has turned it into an anti-trans rights thing though.

The girl was the victim of relationship violence, not an instance of transexual rape.

The rapist had been in a sexual relationship with the victim, and they'd had two consensual sexual encounters in the school bathroom. The girl chose to meet him in the bathroom, but intended to talk. The boy expected sex, didn't take no for an answer and sexually assaulted her.

The rapist was wearing a skirt, but that didn't authorize him to use the girl's bathroom. The bathroom policies that the victim's father was protesting didn't take effect for more than two months after the assault.

My sympathies are with the girl, and I'm in no way condoning rape. But it was nothing to do with transgenders being able to access the girl's bathroom.
