Who are these people and where did you hear they changed the way temperatures are measured? Why did they change the measurement? How do you explain that the record high temperature took everyone by surprise and is very embarrassing to the scientists who made the predictions?

• Surface ground temperatures are taken using 2m screen air temperatures measured using a Stevenson Screen.
• Ocean temperatures are taken by buoys and ships with sensors in the water.
• Satellites like Landsat can measure the temperature of the land, although the uncertainty is five times larger than surface measurements.
• Historical temperatures are measured using various techniques, depending on what you are looking at. E.g. ice core temps are calculated from the ratio of difference isotopes in water.
