During prohibition, the US Govt added poison to industrial alcohol to discourage consumption. The government added more so people stopped using it and ended up killing 10,000 people.

The reason hospitals in the UK started locking their wards was not because of sexual predators but because tramps kept coming in and drinking the hand sanitiser.
