I think the promotion of high-level discourse is a good policy to improve the mental health of the nation. If people are only exposed to things like vulgar language and intellectual discussion is looked down upon, people become cynical and the discussion stops being about finding out the truth but more about forcing people to accept your views.
Understanding society and how complex the historical events that led us to this crisis is something that takes a lot of time and if people aren't even familiar with the techniques to do so in the best fashion, then they will most likely end up being manipulated by pop culture and end up accepting its values. That's the reason why the level of discourse has been destroyed for the most part in social media.
I think sophists have really helped me improve my skills, but unfortunately It's a fight that seems to have no end. A lot of philosophers also saw the use of rethoric and sophistry as some kind of dead end as well. But either way, I still feel like I have a long road ahead of me and I want to see what will happen with the information war eventually.
