I think there is a push from the people of the elites to make people very distracted by constantly working so they don't analyze their situation. This touches how the people of the US work more compared to other countries.

In the US, workers work among the longest, most extreme, and most irregular hours. They work a lot more than what the used to and yet they get paid less.

Paid more, but printing money ("inflation") means less in the real world.
