it is depressing how we didn't continue on the path that the future seemed to foretold. No flying cars. Our cities seemed to be growing, but the empire state building is from 1930 and the WTC were destroyed. Imagine back then thinking more and more skyscrapers would be built. Manifest destiny, imagine what that felt like. Now our civilization is declining. I think it was competition from the cold war, and socialism that didn't require money for everything just manpower and raw materials.

To be fair, flying cars are a gimmick and megapolises are pretty cancerous energy sinks. I suggest you check out WrathOfGnon on Twitter, you’ll learn a lot more about perennial urbanism.
