The people who do these things are not Catholic though they appear to be a part of the church. They literally talk about this in the Bible. Wolf in sheep's clothing.

Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

Amen to that. Jesus warned everyone not to be fooled by false religious people - even the ones who appear most-Jesus-like on the surface.
